Tabula Tua, Chicago's premier tabletop store, brings to you the most beautiful tableware, gifts and home furnishings in a convenient way to shop on-line!
Our story began in 1994 when Grace Tsao-Wu opened a tabletop store in downtown Chicago. Grace's inspiration came in the early 1990's when she moved to Chicago and couldn't find dishes she liked. The department stores have low-end, mass-produced everyday ware. Specialty stores have a very limited selection. After some scouring, Grace found that there were actually a number of American and European artisan studios making beautiful dinnerware - just no one was selling it under one roof.
That was the creation of Tabula Tua - casual, everyday tableware, serving pieces and unusual tabletop accessories that are beautiful, unique and of the highest handcrafted quality. We have since expanded our selection to include other home furnishings ranging from rugs to furniture to clocks and pillows.
Our website was first launched in 2000. We re-launched the website in August 2003 with a lot more products, a new look, and new functionality. www.tabulatua.com is the first on-line store to offer high-end, handcrafted and unique tableware and gifts. We'll continue to scour the globe for products that you won't find elsewhere.
Additionally, all Tabula Tua wedding registries are now available on-line. You can make purchases for your friends who are registered at Tabula Tua directly on the website. You can also create your own registry or wish list.
